ENTWINED

Entwined
By Heather Dixon
472 pages
2 STARS OUT OF 5
COVER 5 STARS

From the looks of this book's cover I should have enjoyed it very much but sadly to say looks can be deceiving.

The story just never "hooked me" in. I knew it was based on a fairytale by Hans Christian Anderson, who is one of my all time favorite writers so I thought if I could just keep reading it that the story would turn around for me. It did not.

The story is about The Twelve Dancing Princesses. Their love for dance is used against them by a dark and evil Prince, or I think that is what he was. He is known by the name of Keeper.

At first he is genius and kind, allowing the young princesses to dance at his home but little do they know he has his mind set on keeping them there for good.

The story was a mixture of fairytale and ghost story with magic mixed in. All things that I enjoy reading about but they just never came together well for me in this book.

Very slow moving and the parts that I guess are considered a love story just never measured up to me. All and all, I am glad I'm done with this book and could not recommend it to anyone to read.

I wish I felt differently about it but there it is.

LOVE BOOKS - BOOKS LOVE

I've always loved books. I can remember when I was very young I used to have a book that had a great smell to it. I know that sounds crazy and maybe it was but every now and then I get a book that has that same smell and it takes me right back to being a child. The first author that I loved was Hans Christian Anderson. The Fir Tree is till one of my all time favorite stories.

In later years I fell hard for Charles Dickens just about everything he wrote I love. Shakespeare took over years later and still holds a top spot with me.

I'm still in a funk that Borders my favorite book store went out of business I love spending time in book stores and just going over the shelves and searching out that book that makes me want to pick it up and read right through. Reading a book is a simple way to be someone else as the story unfolds.

Step into a new world or place that your mind and the words help to bring to life.

The classics will always be my all-time favorites

Jane Austin
Agatha Christie
Shakespeare
Sir Aurthur Conan Doyle
Charlotte Bronte
Charles Dickens
Hans Christian Anderson
E.B. White
Beatrix Potter
J.K. Rowling
and so many more.....

THE HUNGER GAMES

BY SUZANNE COLLINS
Published in 2008

4 STARS OUT OF 5
COVER 4 STARS

In the ruins of North America lies PANEM a shining Capital surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capital is harsh and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in The Hunger Games a fight to the death on live TV.

When I started this book I really did not know what I was in for. It wasted no time at all pulling me into the lives of Katniss and Peeta and the world of Panem. When I found out it was made into a movie and saw some of the previews. I thought it a good idea to read. Every chapter made me want to read the next. I really enjoyed the fact that the main character was a girl and she was put into situations were her skills and brains saved the guy. Lots of action rounded off with moments of sadness, heartbreak, highs and lows.

This book was a real adventure and I enjoyed every bit of it. Two more books in this series I will wait until just before the movies come out to read each of them.

All of that being said, I enjoyed this book very much. The instant I started I wanted to know more about the characters and the world they lived in. It all takes place in the futuristic world where some have much and others have nothing or next to nothing. Those who have control the others by something called the Hunger Games.

The Hunger Games are established as a way to divide and concur. A fight to the death. To keep people in control. One girl and one boy fight back in their own small way. What if anything, will happen to them because of it is left to be told in the second book.

I can't wait to see the movie!

    BLOODY VALENTINE

    Bloody Valentine

What a delightful surprise this little book was! This author has written many books in her BLUE BLOOD series and I wanted to see what it was all about without jumping right in. This book was the perfect go between.

It has short love stories about the characters in the series and I was able to learn about some of their background and enjoy new stories about them at the same time.

I think I will be reading more about the BLUE BLOODS because I enjoyed this book so much.
