THE SEASON

By Sarah MacLean
Pages 345
Copyright 2009
3   1/2 STARS
COVER 4 STARS

The Season is a historical romance story about Lady Alexandra Stafford and her two girlfriends Viv and Ella. At Seventeen are they ready to take on the world of courting, the world of men ?

A better question might be, are the men ready for them?

This was a very light hearted, quick read that in some ways reminded me of Downton Abby in some ways,. It's really was my cut of tea. I love English- British stories of this kind and it had a added mystery murder going on that really made it even of an entertaining read.

The whole courting process was one that made me laugh when you think of how things are now. To think that just being kissed in public could cause your reputation to be ruined just shows how much things have changed.

I enjoyed reading about the parties, dinners and dresses as well as the fun conversations between the three best friends. I kind of wished that I was a fourth friend and could have been included having my first Season as well.

SISTERS RED

Cover 5 STARS- Great
3 STARS OUT OF FIVE- Good Read

I've always been a fan of fairy tales and this retelling of Little Red Riding Hood was a real delight to read. Just the right amount of suspense mixed with horror and a bit of romance sprinkled throughout.

Meet two sisters and a handsome woodsman. Older sister Scarlet having been attacked when a child by a wolf is sared not only physically but mentally and only finds pleasure in hunting down the animals that hurt her and killed her grandmother.

Younger sister Rose, who was saved by her sister in the attack, her beauty still intact, feels a weight of obligation to her sister and is burdened by living her life to please her. Fighting by Scarlet's side even when she dreams of just living a normal teenager life.

Add handsome woodsman Silas, who is faithful to both sisters but finds himself in love with one and has a deadly secret that he doesn't even know about.

While reading I found myself thinking of Buffy the Vampire Slayer with a twist One of my favorite shows so that was not a bad thing. This is my first read by Jackson she has another book out now. Not sure if I will read it or not.

DELIRIUM

Not always a good thing to judge a book by it's cover but in this case I am so glad I did. I love the cover and I loved reading this book even more. Which is kind of a funny thing because this book is all about how LOVE is a disease and before it can take hold of you, you must be cured by having an operation that will leave you with no feelings, no worries and no need for love. They even sight Romeo and Juliet as a example of the dangers that love can cause.

I really enjoyed the main character of the story Lena, she was very realistic and her reactions and feeling were believable to me. She did not have very high opinion of herself and therefore thought that having the love freeing procedure done who in some way make her life easier, she would have an arranged marriage, children and a career all laid out for her.

That all changes when she meets Alex just a few weeks before she is to be cured. He opens her eyes and her heart to a whole new way of thinking and feeling. Now what will she do?

I can say this book was a real page turner, every time I wanted to stop something happened to keep me reading on. I can say, this book gets the No# 2 spot in my favorite books of the year next to the HUNGER GAMES.
